Recently we embarked on a rather interesting project, one that has not just tested creative boundaries but has also been a heartfelt homage to Townsville, a place steeped in architectural diversity and warmth. This is the story of the "50 Houses in 50 Days" series - a tiny tribute to the characteristic spirit of Townsville, through the lens of its homes and the art that brings their essence to life.
An Inspired Idea
With a passion for design, architecture, and an inherent love for Townsville, we decided to embark on a unique journey. A journey that involved capturing the architectural heart of Townsville, one tiny home at a time. This wasn't just about art. It was about connection, heritage, and celebrating the uniqueness of every nook and cranny of this beautiful city through the intimate process of creation. Each day, for 50 days, we sat down with a vision - to encapsulate the architectural essence of a different suburb in Townsville. The catch? Each drawing had to be no larger than 2cm x 3cm. In the world of art, size often speaks volumes, but the decision to keep these homes minuscule was intentional. It was about finding beauty and meaning in the small, the overlooked, the minutiae. Watching each of these homes come to life on an A3 piece of paper was akin to watching a patchwork quilt of Townsville's soul being woven together, thread by delicate thread.

A Love Letter to Townsville
More than just an artistic challenge, "50 Houses in 50 Days" was a love letter to the city that has been the backdrop to countless stories, including ours. In drawing these homes, we didn't just pay homage to a diverse architectural landscape; but also celebrated the myriad stories, memories, and lives that have unfolded within these walls. From the quaint Queenslanders to the sleek modernist homes, each drawing was a testament to the city's rich tapestry of life and history.
The Drawing Process: An Intimate Reveal
Every home was picked from listings on realestate.com.au based on the most common housing style of each suburb. First the tiny homes were sketched in pencil, then the lines were traced over with a 0.1mm fineliner pen. This journey was shared with the world through daily reels on Instagram, letting the audience in on the intimate process of creation. These weren't just drawing sessions; they were moments of connection, reflections on what makes each home, each suburb, uniquely beautiful. The reels became a daily rendezvous for art lovers, homeowners, and Townsville real estate enthusiasts, eagerly waiting to see which suburb and home would come to life next.
